Each ball is 50 metres, so a blanket takes more balls than you might expect. These figures are a guide for a simple stitch; a dense or textured stitch uses more, so buy one extra to be safe.

Tips for working with plush yarn
Blankie is easy to use, but its fluffy pile hides the stitches, and that catches beginners out. A few habits make all the difference.
Feel for the stitch with your fingers instead of looking for it. On plush yarn your hands find the gap more easily than your eyes.
Choose simple stitches. Double crochet or plain garter stitch look wonderful, and fancy patterns disappear into the pile.
Count your stitches at the end of every row, and use stitch markers at each edge so the sides stay straight.
Knot the cut ends before weaving them in, because the pile can shed from a cut end.
Avoid pulling work out again and again. Plush yarn wears a little each time it is undone.
Washing a Blankie blanket
Wash it cool on a gentle cycle, or by hand, and dry it flat in the shade. Keep it away from the iron and from direct heat, which will flatten and damage the pile.
