DMC Fine Punch Needle

The fine punch needle - the one to buy if you want to punch with thread rather than yarn. It takes three interchangeable tips, so one tool covers a range of thread weights, and the barrel adjusts, which is what sets the height of your loops: short barrel for a tight, flat pile, longer for a deep shaggy one.

• Tips: Three interchangeable tips - 2.2 mm, 1.6 mm and 1.3 mm
• Thread match: The 2.2 mm tip suits Pearl Cotton no. 3, the 1.6 mm no. 5 and the 1.3 mm no. 8. Any fine thread works, including stranded cotton, as long as it runs smoothly through the tip you have chosen
• Adjustable: Sliding barrel sets the loop height
• Also included: Wire needle threader

Punch needle leaves loops on one side of the fabric and flat stitches on the other, so either face can be the front - or you can turn the work over partway and mix the two textures in one piece.

For chunky yarn rather than thread, you want the size 10 wooden punch needle instead; we stock that too. Punch needle wants an open-weave fabric you can see the gaps in, and a frame that holds it drum-tight.
